Alcaraz routs Tsitsipas to advance at RG

Carlos Alcaraz stretched his dominance over Stefanos Tsitsipas to 6-0 with a 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-4  defeat of the Greek to advance to the French Open semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Spanish third seed took full advantage of his opponent’s lack of form as he booked the final four in just under two and a quarter hours.

Alcaraz earned his 22nd match win of the season and ninth on the clay.

The Spaniard’s season has been start-stop due to a firearm injury he picked up in the spring and which kept him away from much of the grass season until the start in Paris.

Alcaraz will face off in a battle of young guns when he plays Jannik Sinner for a place in the final on Friday. .

The winner will play his fifth Grand Slam semi and the second here after 2023 following his defeat of the two-time clay titleholder in Monte Carlo on his first match point as a Tsitsipas drop shot landed short.

“It was a really good match,” Alcaraz said. “I played great. There were ups and down in my game, But I controlled my emotions really well

“I was calm in the moments when I needed to be.”

The 21-year-old Spaniard added: “I’m happy with how I played and managed the match. I’m glad to play a semi-final here.

Sinner is playing the best tennis in the world at the moment, and this is the match that everyone wants to see,” he said of the upcoming repeat of a 2022 quarter-final in Paris.

“Jannik pushes me to be better, I wake up wanting to improve my game. I’m ready to take this challenge.

“I’m sure we will both show our best tennis.”
