China will be without top name Zheng Qinwen after the Australian Open finalist and Olympic gold medalist withdrew from next week’s start at the United Cup in Perth citing fatigue from a long 2024 season.

The No. 5 who won three titles last season and reached the final of the year-end WTA Finals, losing to Coco Gauff.

Zheng said on social media that she still needs time to prepare for 2025 and will be skipping the third edition of the men’s and women’s team event which begins late next week in both Perth and Sydney.

“Hi everyone, just a quick update that I am sadly not going to be competing at the United Cup next week. After the long season that 2024 was for me, I need a few extra weeks of rest, recovery, and good rest to get ready for the new season.”

Zheng added: “I had such a fantastic time at the United Cup in January of this year, and therefore will miss the event greatly. Still, I am excited to be back in Australia soon and I will see you all in Melbourne in a couple of weeks.”
