Becker: I fear for Djokovic after RG injury

Boris Becker fears that injured Novak Djokovic could miss Wimbledon after the right knee injury which forced the holder to quit the French Open.

Becker, commentating Roland Garros for Eurosport, suggested that the Serb could need surgery to repair the meniscus injury he suffered on the clay.

That scenario would mean he would surely miss Wimbledon and likely the US Open, Becker suggested.

“This is bad news for all Djokovic fans and I’m one of them,” the German said.

“You could almost guess it after the (Monday) match against (Francisco) Cerundolo, which he played with a limp.

“The painkillers (from doctors during the match) made the fifth set easier, but he had already warned that evening what the next morning would be like.”

Becker is a former coach of the world No. 1 and knows Team Djoko from the inside out.

“He already had knee problems at the last few tournaments, but never spoke about them,” Becker said .

“That’s obviously very bitter for him. I wish him a speedy recovery so that he is fit again for the grass-court season.”
