The Asian swing took a pause on Monday for weekend Beijing titlewinner Amanda Anisimova as the American withdrew from the WTA event in Wuhan with injury.

World No. 4 Anisimova, who lifted the Beijing title over Linda Noskova in three sets on Sunday. cited a calf injury as reason for her withdrawal.

The decision was foreshadowed last week, with the American suffering the after-effects of a wisdom tooth extraction at home before the event and also complaining of feeling poorly with foot and calf pain.

Along the way, Anisimova upset defending champion and WTA no. 3 Coco Gauff in the semi-finals.

“I was having pain in my foot and in my calf more into the third round,” the two-time Grand Slam finalist said in the Chinese capital.

” I was just hurting all day when I was walking. I’m still having a bit of pain, but it’s nothing serious, it’s just annoying aches and pains.”

Anisimova is yet to decide whether to extend her Asian run by competing in the upcoming Ningbo Open, last stop on the WTA Far East tour.
