Berrettini moves closer to Stuttgart hat-trick
Matteo Berrettini stands just two wins away from a Stuttgart Open trophy hat-trick after the Italian reached the semi-finals 6-4, 7-5 over James Duckworth on Friday.
The champion here in 2019 and 2022 sent the Australian challenger packing, sealing their quarter-final with his 14th ace after just under 90 minutes on the grass of the Weissenhof Club.
The ATP No. 95 who began another injury comeback in March won his seventh grass quarter-final without a loss and will compete in his first Tour semi-final since 2022 Queen’s.
No. 101 Duckworth should move to around 85 in the rankings after his profitable week in Germany.
“When I step onto grass I feel good,” the winner said. “I could play for hours and hours.
“I had a really solid match on my serve, I didn’t give him any break points.
“You have to pick your moments; I played aggressive and put a lot of return onto the court.
“Things worked out today, and I’m happy about that.”
