Britain’s interest in the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open singles events was reduced to just two players as Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter were both knocked out in straight-set third round defeats.

Katie Boulter, British women’s No. 1, lost 6-0 7-5 to seventh seed Elena Rybakina in The Tennis Garden.

Boulter, playing her first tournament since picking up a foot injury in January’s Australian Open, received a first-round bye in Indian Wells as the 25th seed.

23 year old Londoner Sonay Kartal currently ranked 83, is the only remaining Briton in the women’s draw having conclusively beaten the No.16 seed Beatriz Haddad Mia.

Kartal got into the main draw as a lucky loser and faces Polina Kudermetova in the round of 32.

British men’s No. 2 Cameron Norrie  lost 6-3 7-5 to Tommy Paul  leaving Jack Draper as the last British male who will face American Jenson Brooksby today.
