Carlos Alcaraz said he would prefer to be back home after emerging from a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 thrashing at the hands of Briton Cam Norrie to crash out in his opening match at the Paris Masters on Tuesday.

The world No. 1 Spaniard whose year-end top ranking could be under threat, could not hide his bitter disappointment at losing with more than 50 unforced errors as Norrie moved to the third round.

“Right now I just want to be back home, and let’s see what’s I gonna do,” the 22-year-old said.

“Of course I’m gonna practice and prepare myself, and obviously I will try not let this thing happen again.

“I came here with a lot of energy. thinking that I could do good results because I have been playing really good tennis.

“Other years I (felt) exhausted physically and mentally. But this year I feel good.
I skipped Shanghai (but played the money-spinning Saudi exhibition this month).

“I have been at home many days. I could enjoy myself there and relax, I helped (recharge) the battery, so I don’t know what happened here.

But I will figure it out, and I will end up playing great tennis here, for sure.”
