de Minaur dumps Draper to rise in Turin race
Alex de MInaur finished off a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 comeback over Brit Jack Draper on Thursday to rise into contention for a place at the upcoming ATP Finals.
The Australian who has been making a comeback after a Wimbledon abdominal muscle injury, advanced for the second straight year into the quarter-finals at the Paris Bercy Masters.
De Minaur moved from ninth to eighth, bypassing Andrey Rublev in the points sprint to the year-end field in Turin which begins a week from Sunday.
He broke Draper in the final game of the two-hour match, bringing an end to the seven-match win streak last weekend’s Vienna titleholder.
De Minaur has now won four of his five matches against Draper, with the Brit collecting his only win in the series in September’s US Open quarter-finals.
The Aussie has now achieved a career best of 47 match wins in a season as a result of shutting down Draper.
