Brit Jack Draper copped a USD 500 fine for smashing a ball out of the club grounds as the national No. 1 took a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 quarter-final loss on Friday to Tommy Paul.

Draper, winner five days ago in the Stuttgart final, was 24 hours removed  from his knockout of defending champion Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s Club, London, a prime Wimbledon warmup.

The 22-year-old let his emotions explode for a moment in the final set after losing serve before his opponent took a 5-3 lead.

Draper still heads into Wimbledon from July 1 as the top local player, with a seeding guaranteed due to his new 31st ranking.

“I played good tennis and I like the grass. I knew today was going to be a battle,” American Paul said.

“It is never easy against Jack, he has been playing such good tennis, so I am really happy to get through that one.”
