Djoko dumps Bercy; ATP Finals in serious doubt
Novak Djokovic withdrew on Monday from next week’s Paris Bercy Masters putting his possible qualification for the ATP Finals in Turin in serious doubt.
The former world No. 1 who now stands fourth, lost the Shanghai Masters final this month to Jannik Sinner and then picked up a payday of several million USD at the Saudi exhibition last week.
But the 37-year-old looks to be coming good on his vow to cut his schedule after failing to win at least one Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017.
By skipping the Paris date – last event of the regular season – Djokovic is putting his Turin Finals qualification on a knife edge.
He currently stands provisional sixth and has not yet assured himself a place in the eight-man field
Outstanding play from trailing rivals including Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur could send one of them past him or possibly relegate the 24-time Grand Slam champion to alternate status, a role he would surely reject..
