After losing to Novak Djokovic 2-6,5-7(5) in the Six Kings third  place play-off exhibition in Riyadh, their last ever head to head singles match,  Rafa Nadal thanked his opponent “for everything”

The Spaniard, winner of 22 career Grand Slams including 14 French Open Titles, looked back on his “amazing rivalry” with the Serb and praised him for pushing him to exceed his limits.

Between them the two all-time greats  won a combined 46 Grand Slam titles during their rivalry, with Djokovic coming out on top in their last tight tussle to claim a straight-sets victory and finish the event in third place.

The 38-year-old  Nadal will retire following the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next month.

World No 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-7 6-3 6-3 in the final to claim the $6 first prize, the richest payday in the sport.
