Draper dumps Washington in fresh injury setback
Jack Draper on Monday made yet another late tournament withdrawal, with the one-time top 10 player pulling out of the ATP Washington event before his first match.
The Briton who has yet to be actually coached under an oft-delayed arrangement with Andy Murray, cited his arm injury for the decision, which comes nearly a year after the problem first flared.
“These last months have felt like nothing but adversity and setbacks. Most days I’ve spent in doubt, yet hopeful that I can keep taking positive steps forward and finding ways to progress,” Draper posted on Instagram.
“On days off, I reflect, and I’m only grateful for the struggle and what it’s teaching me. Finding acceptance and being patient with the process has been my biggest challenge, but I know I’m getting closer to where I want to be!!”
Draper, his ranking now down to 147, had a wildcard entry into Washington, a kickoff event prior to back-to-back Masters 1000s in Canada and Cincinnati prior to the US Open.
He was replaced in the draw by lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald.
