Jannik Sinner raced to his quickest-ever three-set win on Saturday, taking just 59 minutes to dispatch Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1 in a second-round start at the Cincinnati Masters.

The world No. 1 started his title defence in the Midwest nearly a month after winning Wimbledon and showed absolutely no signs of rust.

Sinner swept the first five games in a quarter of an hour against a 144th-ranked opponent

The victory was one minute shorter than Sinner’s previous ATP best.

Sinner won his 22nd straight hardcourt match after last losing on the surface , last losing in last September’s Beijing final.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Sinner said of his delayed return to the Tour. “I’m happy because it’s not easy to play here.

“Today I was finding my spots on serve,  for a first match it could not have gone better.”

No. 11 Casper Ruud became an early victim, losing 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 to France’s Arthur Rinderknech. The Norwegiant was felled by 34 unforced errors in two and three-quarter hours.

Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti exited 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
