Fissette joins team Iga in WTA coaching swap

Only weeks after shaking up her coaching staff and skipping the autumn Asian swing to reorganise, WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek has completed what amounts to a coaching swap.

The Pole whose last match was a disappointing quarter-final loss to Jessica Pegula at the US Open more than a month ago has signed well-respected Wim Fissette as her coach only weeks after the 44-year-old Belgian parted easy with former No. 1 Naomi Osaka.

Swiatek split with her longtime Polish mentor Tomasz Wiktorowski , who denied this week that the player’s trusted psychological guru had a role in his dismissal.

Swiatek was openly frustrated with her hardcourt summer after a Cincinnati semi-final followed by her New York Grand Slam debacle.

Fissette has a top pedigree, working in the past with Grand Slam winners Kim Clijsers, Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber.

He and latest client Osaka parted for a second time in September as the Japanese player struggles with a competitive comeback after giving birth.
