Focused Iga warned off too much Taylor

Iga Swiatek has been advised by her team to keep her emotions in check as she puts her Taylor Swift uber-fandom on the back  burner with only hours to go before the Monday Wimbledon start.

The world No. 1 flew to a Liverpool Eras Tour Swift concert at mid-month, apparently loving every moment.

And while training in the Grand Slam run-up at the All England Club, the Pole had flirted with the idea of repeating the experience at a London date.

But tennis eventually took precedence, with Swiatek explaining on Saturday:

“I was in Liverpool to see Taylor – it was amazing. I actually was thinking about going here for the second time.

“But basically like three days after this (Liverpool) concert, I was so
excited I couldn’t sleep and everything.”

That’s when wiser heads brought the top seed back down to earth.

“We decided it’s better to focus on the tournament.; but it was a great experience.

(At Wimbledon, 2022), I went to Adele (concert) in Hyde Park after my match. If I’m going to lose early (here) then I’ll have more time.”

Swiatek will step onto grass for the first time this summer in her first-round opener against former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin after withdrawing from the Berlin grass event this month.

“Here the first serve is even more important. It seemed fine in practices, so I’m going to try it out on matches.

“Hopefully the progress that I’ve made is going to pay off. It wasn’t like we needed to focus on one specific thing.

“It’s overall just getting the feeling of the surface and making the small adjustments; i think that is going to be enough, but we’ll see.”
