Foot fault: Injured Paolini to skip hardcourt start
Jasmine Paolini will skip the opening chapters of the North American hardcourt season with the foot injury that bothered her at Wimbledon.
The two-time Grand Slam finalist made the call and will miss both next week’s WTA event in Washington as well as the Canadian masters stop in August.
The 30-year-old reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals losing to Marta Kostyuk while dealing with her foot concerns.
“Unfortunately, I’ve decided to withdraw from Washington and Toronto so I can give my foot some extra time to rest,” she posted on Instagram.
“I’m sorry I won’t be there and I wish everyone involved two amazing tournaments. Thank you, as always, for all your love and support.”
Paolini is defending 660 points in the pre-US Open run-up which also includes the Cincinnati Masters.
