Coco Gauff sank deeper into her current WTA slump, with the defending champion going down 6-1, 6-2 to US Open finalist Amanda Anisimova on Saturday in the China Open semi-finals.

World No. 3 Gauff, winner of two grand Slam titles, was unable to make an impression on the American compatriot who also beat her in the Wimbledon third round three years ago.

The fourth-ranked Anisimova, who lost the New York Grand Slam final last month to Aryna Sabalenka, will be playing her first final in Beijing against

Linda Noskova, a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (6)  winner over Jessica Pegula.

Gauff turned in a poor match, trailing 5-0 in both sets and only barely saving the embarrassment of a double bagel result while turning in five double-faults in defeat.

“I was just excited to play here in my first semi-final and I was able to put on a really good performance,” the winner said.

“I knew I was going to have to play very well against Coco if I wanted to get the win, I’m really excited to be in the final.”

Anisimova stands 1-1 against Noskova.
