Gilbert eyeing next coaching gig after split with Gauff

Brad Gilbert is  already on the lookout for his next coaching job after parting ways with Coco Gauff after the American’s disaster of a US Open.

Former player Gilbert – known as a nonstop talker – led the former world No. 2 – now down to sixth – to the US Grand Slam title in 2023.

But the return trip at the most recent edition turned into a disaster, with Gauff crashing out as defending champion in the fourth round to compatriot Emma Navarro.

The early exit must have been the final straw for Gauff, who also lost a Cincinnati title defence in August with a second-round exit.

The 20-year-old will now be in the market for a new mentor after dispatching Gilbert, who served as a team consultant in 2023 and headed the Gauff coaching staff for 10 months.

“Thanks to Coco Gauff and the entire team for an absolutely amazing summer run in 2023 and for 14 months of incredible team effort,” posted on social media.

“Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright and I wish you nothing but continued success ahead. I’m excited for the next chapter in my coaching career.”

The 63-year-old Gilbert formerly coached Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.
