The “controversial plans” to allow the AELTC to construct 39 new tennis courts  and an 8000 seater  stadium  on Wimbledon Park have been approved.

Deputy Mayor of London Jules Pipe who gave the plans the go-ahead decided that “the significant’ community and economic benefits of the scheme outweigh the harm.”

Opponents of the proposal , especially the local community are “now running out of options, though they could still apply for a judicial review.”

Though Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner  has the power to “hold a fresh planning hearing,” she emphasised in a letter” that the “application ‘should be determined at a local level.'”

If the project does eventually proceed, the development will allow Wimbledon qualifying to take place on site and allow up to 10,000 people per day to watch.
