Hubert Hurkacz fired 17 aces as he overwhelmed home favourite Alexander Zverev 7-6 (2), 6-4 on Saturday to ease into a second grass final at Halle.

The Pole, who will rank a career-best seventh on Monday, handed the Roland Garros finalist a semi-final defeat in 95 minutes, becoming the first opponent this week to break the world No. 4 German.

Hurkacz will aim to repeat his 2022 trophy here when he faces off on Sunday against either top seed Jannik Sinner his doubles partner..

Hurkacz did not drop a set as he moved into the title match, ending with 30 winners and 21 unforced errors.

“I needed to play good, Sasha is playing incredible tennis,” the winner said. “He (Germany) beat us in the United Cup final (in January). That was a little bit in the back of my mind – I didn’t want a repeat.

Hurkacz said his big serve always proves to be a useful weapon.

“I managed to believe in the game, I know I can hit good serves and shots. I stayed pretty calm.

“I love the grass, the surface really suits my game; and the atmosphere here is incredible.”

The win was the first for Hurkacz against Zverev who came to the court leading 3-0 in their series.
