Briton Jack Draper made a surprise withdrawal from the US Open on Wednesday due to injury. The pullout prior to competing in the second round sends Belgian Zizou Bergs into the third round.

Draper, who had not played for six weeks after losing in the Wimbledon second round, missed the entirety of the North American hardcourt run-up to the last major of 2025.

The world No. 5 has been dealing with an arm injury and came to New York with no match preparation.

He said before his start here: “I obviously had a bit of time off with an injury in my arm. I’ve been training a lot the last month or so, physically really pushed myself hard, and that makes me feel mentally really good about myself.”

He also detailed the development of his physical problem.

“I first started feeling it probably in the middle of the clay season. I felt like my arm was shutting down a little bit when I was hitting forehands and on the serve.

“It got progressively a bit worse – then on the grass it got quite painful.

“I got it  checked out. I had some bone stress, bone bruising, If you keep playing with it, it could become very, very serious. So I had to take some time out.”
