Italian rapper rips Sinner in fresh track

An Italian rapper has laid into Jannik Sinner in a few track, depicting the world No. 2 of having cultural connections with Adolf Hitler.

Rapper Fedez laid into the four-time Grand Slam winner, whose South Tyrol roots in the country’s German-speaking alpine north cast him an outsider to many in the more Italianate south.”The Italian has a new idol, his name is Jannik Sinner. A thoroughbred Italian with the accent of Adolf Hitler,” read the scandalous lyrics.

Sinner, who is fluent in his mountain dialect – a linguistic cousin of Swiss-German – also works in Italian and English.

Italy’s prestigious La Gazzetta dello Sport has denounced the controversial lyric as “unworthy and shameful madness.”

Hitler was born in Austria, while Sinner’s home area was once a part of the Austro-Hungarian empire which became Italian after the first world war.

The bilingual area alternates between German and Italian and has quasi independence from Rome in handling its own affairs.

Sinner has long said he considers himself as 100 per cent Italian; he is fiscally based in Monte Carlo like many other top sports stars.

Fedez, from the northern Milan region, doubled down on his position during an Italian radio interview.

“This is not an attack on Sinner. I don’t know him, and besides, I don’t want to. That’s not the point. Anyone who wants to understand what is happening in Italy cannot live in Monaco.”

The 35-year-old tried to claim it’s nothing personal: “He’s a great guy who lives in Monaco and doesn’t pay taxes there. He’s much richer than me ,” he said sarcastically,

“I’d feel less legitimate to speak if I were in his shoes. In my opinion, Jannik doesn’t give a damn about what’s going on here. He’s from Alto Adige, he lives in Monaco…

“This is not an attack on Sinner. I don’t know him, and besides, I don’t want to. That’s not the point.”

The rapper conveniently timed his publicity-generating stunt just in time for northern Italian concerts scheduled for this weekend in Milan, site in 2026 for the ATP Finals currently staged in rival Turin.
