Italy slam Spain with 2-0 sweep to triple Davis title
Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli combined to hand Italy a 2-0 win in Sunday’s Davis Cup final, handing the nation a third consecutive title with victory in Bologna.
The defending champions who were without world No. 2 Jannik Sinner due to injury, took little notice in sending Spain to defeat with back-to-back singles rubber wins.
Former Wimbledon runner-up Berrettini got italy off to the best possible start as he punished Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6-4. Cobolli assured the trophy performance as he defeated Jaume Munar with a 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 fightback win.
Italy becomes the first country to win three trophies in a row since 1972, backing up titles at the previous two editions in Malaga with the home success in front of 10,000 fans.

Both Sinner and national No. 2 Lorenzo Musetti – both top 10 players – were both missing through injury.
Spain was playing a final for the first time since 2019 but was missing world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, another late-season injury victim who gave the worldwide team event a miss.
