Kvitova to call it a day after autumn NY farewell
Double Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will end her comeback attempt after motherhood with a final appearance at the US Open.
The 35-year-old Czech who won the London grass title in 2011 and 2014, said on Thursday she will wrap up her career at Flushing Meadows, which begins in late August.
The news came as she was awarded a nostalgic Wimbledon wild card entry.
“I am excited and very much looking forward to soak in the beauty of playing The Championships, Wimbledon one more time, a place that holds the most cherished memories in my career,” Kvitova said.
“And while I am not entirely sure yet what my hardcourt swing in the US will look like, I am intending to finish my active playing career at the US Open in New York later this summer.”
The No. 572 who reached a career best of second in the world last played Wimbledon in 2023 and gave birth to a son a year ago during the tournament period.
