The hard times continued on Wednesday for Daniil Medvedev, with the fourth seed losing for the third consecutive year at the Paris Masters in an opening match.

The 2021 US Open winner who has yet to lift a trophy midway through the last week of the regular season, now heads to the eight-man ATP Finals in Turin at a low ebb.

He went down 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4) in the second round after a bye to Alexei Popyrin, who lost a 4-1 lead in the third set but battled back to win it in a tiebreaker after two and a half hours.
