With singles off the menu due to his recent back surgery, Andy Murray has opted to fill up his ample Wimbledon down time by entering both doubles events.

The two-time singles champion has already announced he will combine in the men’s event with specialist brother Jamie.

But on Wednesday, British fan dreams became reality with the revelation that Murray will team with local ingenue Emma Raducanu, with the pair taking a stab at the mixed event.

Murray has played mixed before here, teaming with Serena Williams in 2019. He also played to a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics with Laura Robson.

The 37-year-old treble Grand Slam winner had to withdraw before his singles first round after failing to reach match fitness 10 days out from his June keyhole back surgery.

Raducanu is still carrying British hopes in women’s singles as the 2021 US Open winner tries to keep the flag flying at the home major.

Murray said that while he cannot risk his body in singles, “doubles is a slightly different game in terms of the physicality of it.

“I’m looking forward to that.”

The Murray brothers are due to begin their campaign on Thursday, with their matches no doubt scheduled on one of the covered showcourts.

The siblings played together in various Davis Cup ties in 2015-2016 and last competed in a Tour event at Indian Wells a decade ago.
