Andy Murray’s management appears to be bucking the medical odds, with the Scot’s team insisting that playing Wimbledon – which starts in a week – is not out of the question for the Scot.

Confusion reigned off court after the 37-year-old reportedly underwent back surgery for a spinal cyst at the weekend, Tweets from tennis authorities including the ATP and Britain’s LTA.

But Murray’s handlers apparently got the posts taken down as they insist that all is not lost for the former No. 1 at the Grand Slam where he owns two titles.

While some doctors say recovery should take up to six weeks, Murray is reportedly ready to try radical measures to try and get on the grass late in the week, with main draw play starting Monday July 1.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has strongly hinted in recent months that he will pack in his career at the appropriate moment sometime after a summer which also includes the Paris Olympics – where he is also entered in singles and doubles for Britain.
