Murray will miss his debut date with Djoko
Newly-named VIP coach Andy Murray is set to miss the season start of client Novak Djokovic, with the Brit reportedly staying homebound during the holiday period.,
The BBC reported that Murray – appointed only weeks ago as mentor for his former rival Djokovic – will not be in position as the 37-year-old Serb starts 2025 at the Brisbane ATP event.
Murray, who retired this season, is due to join team Djokovic at the Australian Open, which begins on January 12. The Brisbane event starts on December 29.
For Murray to be there would mean leaving his family of wife and four children during the Christmas-New Year period.
Djokovic will be in the hunt for a record 25th Grand Slam singles title when he plays Melbourne Park after winning the major 10 times.
Djokovic won the Brisbane trophy near the start of his career in 2007 and last competed in the Queensland city in 2009.
“I’m excited to be kicking off my Australian swing at the Brisbane International and to compete again at Pat Rafter Arena,” Djokovic said when his return was announced.
“I am looking forward to experiencing the incredible support from the Australian fans and making this tournament one to remember.”
Djokovic owns 99 career titles and has reportedly chosen Murray to guide him – for now – as he cuts back his playing schedule in order to concentrate on the prestige events as his career nears an inevitable end.
