Alex de Minaur’s hopes of progressing in the ATP finals remain alive ATP Finals, but only just ,after a three-set loss to home favourite Lorenzo Musetti.

The Aussie No.1 went down 7-5 3-6 7-5 in two hours 48 minutes at the Inalpi Arena, keeping the Italian in the event and now leaving the 26-year-old  from Sydney needing a convincing win over Taylor Fritz in his final group match to make it to the semi finals

The pair are 5-5 in the head to head though Fritz won their meeting in last year’s season ender here.

“I was really struggling physically because Alex raised the level and intensity and I was really struggling to find the solution,” Musetti said.

“But at the end with a big heart and big passion for this game, I don’t know from where, I started to feel better and play better.

“I am a warrior. I have improved a lot on the mental side and I am pushing myself to the limit because I am playing every match against the top players.”
