Next season will be the last for veteran Wawrinka
Stan Wawrinka will pack in his career at the end of this upcoming season with the 40-year-old ready to finally call it quits.
Switzerland’s three-time Grand Slam winner who played out the majority of his career in the massive shadow of compatriot Roger Federer announced on Friday that 2026 will be his last.
He will begin his exit scenario on January 2 at the United Cup teams event in Perth.
“One last push. Every book needs an ending. It’s time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player,” he posted on X.
The former world No. 3 who currently ranks 157th, added: “2026 will be my last year on tour P, perseverance, A, ambition, S, sacrifice, S, success, I, injuries, O, obsession, N, never give up, D, discipline, R, resilience, E, evolution, A, ambition, M, memories.
“This is what this journey has been about. I still want to push my limits and finish this journey on the best note possible.
“I still have dreams in this sport. I’ve enjoyed every part of what tennis has given me, especially the emotions I feel playing in front of you
“I’m looking forward to seeing you one more time, all around the world. One last push.”
