No “secret sauce” for Raducanu Spanish comeback

Emma Raducanu has begun preparations for the 2026 season, with the Briton swearing there won’t be any “secret sauce” involved as she and new Spanish coach Francisco Roig get to work in Barcelona.

“We’re going to continue doing what we have been,” the No. 29 said in reference to her mentor, former coach to Rafael Nadal.

“I did have to take a little bit of time after the season with my foot and I got sick.

“(We will) just continue…it’s not like a secret sauce that we’re going to do.”

Raducanu’s glory as the 2021 US Open champion has long since faded, with the 23-year-old now determined to put her once promising career back into gear.

She had a pair of exhibition paydays in North America lined up in the off-season but has bowed out as she and Roig get to work.

“My goal with him for next year is going to try and take a bit more control of the points. Not in an overly aggressive way, just pretty controlled, but moving the ball around.

“I think just bringing in some new variety, but also not necessarily running all the time (during matches).

”(I will) spend some more time on the court, because I’ve been doing a lot in the gym, but now I need to start transitioning.”

The player said she wants to start “building a better Emma Raducanu and a better base level.

“The ideal is that you don’t have to necessarily think too much about the other players, and you can just go and execute your game and know that you can win.

“I do have to use my skill, use my brain a little bit more. But I also think that with Francis, he’s trying to build a better quality, not necessarily by changing my physiological capacities, just by using better technique, using better timing and using better movement.”
