Osaka dumps Mouratoglou, picks up former Iga coach
A Polish coach discarded by Iga Swiatek has been picked up by Naomi Osaka, after Japan’s four-time Grand Slam champion split with French mentor Patrick Mouratoglou.
Osaka revealed the move on social media and then took to the court in Montreal for a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault in the first round.
The 49-th-ranked Osaka ended her arrangement with Mouratoglou after less than a year and will now trial Polish coach Tomasz Wiktorowski who worked with former world No. 1 Swiatek from late 2021 until they parted ways last autumn.
“Merci Patrick it was such a great experience learning from you,” Osaka posted on social media.
“Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people l’ve ever met and I’m sure I’ll see you around.”
