German qualifier Tatjana Maria completed a fairytale week on the grass of Queen’s club as she defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 to win her second title on grass Sunday.

The No. 86 marked the return of women to the West London grass after 52 years with her victory, the fourth of her career.

American Anisimova did most of the work in the final, producing 27 unforced errors and 28 winners while Maria had just seven and eight respectively.

The mother of two who turned pro at age 14 said she never could have imagined such a scenario at the pre-Wimbledon event.

“It’s amazing, a dream come true,” the winner said. “I was never thinking I would hold the trophy. It’s incredible, I’m so, so happy.

She added: “Anything is possible if you go your own way and keep going. I wanted to show my kids – I know they are proud.

The player coached by her husband said the family will celebrate the victory, with her daughter possibly enjoying some Nutella as a treat.
