Raducanu gets a win after two month dry spell
Emma Raducanu fought through for her first match win since July as she reached the second round of the WTA event in Seoul on Tuesday.
The Briton whose hardcourt summer failed to impress, came to life in Asia, defeating Peyton Stearns 7-6(4) 7-6(5) in a struggle lasting for nearly three hours.
The American was also the last player whom Raducanu defeated, putting her out in the Washington second round before losing a day later to eventual champion Paula Badosa.
“I’m proud to have made it through to the next round. It was tough and very humid,” No. 70 Raducanu said.
“I haven’t played many matches in the last few months. Peyton is a really good player in good form so I’m really pleased.”
Raducanu’s only match after her Washington quarter-final was a first-round loss at the US Open to Sofia Kenin,
The Korean match featured eight breaks of serve and a first set lasting an hour and a quarter.
The Briton earned a 5-3 lead in the second set as both she and her opponent saved break points. But the battle went into a second decider, which Raducanu won to move ahead.
She next plays 40th-ranked Chinese Yuan Yue
