Raducanu joins Draper on the no-show list

Emma Raducanu on Tuesday begged off another WTA tournament, with the chronically injured Brit withdrawing form next week’s Toronto Masters.

The start of the hardcourt summer is nothing but bad news for British tennis, with both Raducanu and ATP pro Jack Draper (left arm) both pulling from events due to injury.

Draper is giving this week in Washington  amiss after travelling early to the US with part-time mentor Andy Murray.

No. 49 Raducanu, who has not been healthy for months and last played in a losing  final to Donna Vekic six weeks ago at Queens Club, will miss the WTA’s pre-US open date in Canada and will drop 12 ranking spots as a result

Raducanu said a stress fracture in her right leg is to blame for her pullout.

“I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line, but after a final scan tonight the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture.

“I’ve been medically advised to stop pushing through.” She is already missing this week in Washington and appears to have slim hopes for making it to the US Open starting in just over a month.

The Canadian men’s event is also hurting after world No. 1 and double Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner said he would not play and was joined as an absentee by Novak Djokovic

Canadian officials have filed a strong protest with the ATP over the unworkable 12-day-long Masters event experiment which is starting to decimate player fields.
