Raducanu junks Olympic plans
Emma Raducanu won’t bother with the Paris Olympics next month while it’s full speed ahead for Andy Murray at the Games.
Raducanu has turned down a wildcard offered this week by British authorities, saying the time was not right for her scheduling.
““She feels that this isn’t going to be the right timing for her for this summer,” Olympic team leader Iain Bates told British media.
“A lot of that is obviously in the late notice of the spot. I think there’s the bit around the surface change between grass and clay and hard, and everyone’s aware of her history and the double wrist surgery from last year.”
Raducanu was offered her free place on the team due to her 2021 US Open title. Since then her ranking has dropped like a stone and she has been plagued by injury.
The No. 209 has not been beyond the second round of a Grand Slam since her surprise triumph in New York.
Murray, meanwhile, will benefit from an UTF wild card entry as a former gold medalist and will also team in doubles with Dan Evans.
