Raducanu routed as comeback suffers setback
Emma Raducnau’s big plans for a coachless comeback hji the buffers on Sunday as the Briton suffered a 6-1 6-1 humbling at the hands of Amanda Anisimova.
Raducanu, who has gone through nearly a dozen coaches since winning the US Open from a qualifying start five years ago, will go back to the drawing boards after losing in 52 minutes with her serve broken five times,
Anisimova, finalist at two of the last three Grand Slams, left nothing to chance as she crushed Raducanu, who must now re-group for the Miami Masters starting next week.
An early exit in Florida would dump the No. 23 out of the ranking top 30.
“I’m really happy with my performance today, it’s never easy to play against Emma,” the American winner said.
“Really happy with the way I was able to start playing from the beginning to finish.”
Anisimova said the time on court just flew by with everything in her game on point.
“I don’t look at the clock unless it’s a really long match, just if I’m curious how long I’ve been playing.
“It’s not like I try and rush the match in any way. I think that would actually take away
from what I’m doing if I shift my focus to something like that.
“When the match is going really fast, I try to just remind myself to keep doing the same thing and what I’m doing, not try to change anything or get in my head.”
