Raducanu still in the hunt for win double
Britain’s new No. 1 as of next Monday Emma Raducanu fought back from 5-2 down in the second set in sweltering heat to take out Maria Sakkari 6-4 7-5 at the Washington Open to reach her first 2025 semi-final .
Raducanu will face either Anna Kalinskaya or Dane Clara Tauson who play later today in the last four as she attempts to reach her first WTA final since winning the US Open in 2021 without dropping a set.
After the match she told Sky Sports: “I’ve been doing a lot of good work. Little by little as you get results, you build confidence.
“But the amount of work I’m doing behind the scenes, to have that banked, you know you’ve done it. It takes a little bit of pressure off the results.”
“I think when I watch myself now, I really like how I look on the court — not in like a narcissistic way,” Raducanu said Thursday, drawing laughter from reporters. “I mean in terms of energy, and I think I feel quite upbeat.
“I think it’s more I look composed on the court. I think that’s a product of just the amount of work I’m doing behind the scenes that maybe people don’t see. I know regardless of the result I’m doing the right things, and I’m banking so many good days in a row. It takes a bit of pressure off the immediate result in the matches.”
Raducanu is also in the hunt for a title in the women’s doubles after reaching the semi-finals with partner Elena Rybanika. They face second seeds Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai later today.
