Rafael Nadal remains on track to wind up his storied career this month as he plays for Spain in the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.

Team captain David Ferrer, a minor rival and good friend of the clay icon during much of his career, confirmed to Marca that he is planning to utilise Nadal in his strategy planning.

The 38-year-old with 22 Grand Slam singles titles has said he will retire after is run at the Finals is done.

But Ferrer – in constant contact with Team Nadal – will have to make a last-minute decision on using the 38-year-old based upon how Nadal pulls up in final training.

“I will make the final decision in Malaga when I see how he is training,” the skipper said..

“I want him to be ready to play and I know his honesty; if he does not see himself in condition, he himself will say that he will not play,”
