Roland Garros 2026 Men’s Day 11

Flavio Cobolli set up an all-Italian semi-final at the French Open on Wednesday as he out-whelmed Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to write history at the clay Grand Slam.

Cobolli,a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 2025, will wait for an opponent from one of two countrymen – Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi – after moving into the final four with a display of comeback poise.

It marks the third time that a pair of Italians have booked the semis of a major after Nicola Pietrangeli & Orlando Sirola at 1960 French Championships and Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti at Roland Garros last year. 

Trailing a set and a break, Cobolli said he was able to start turning the situation in his favour in windy conditions.

“We played two different matches, it was incredibly windy  at the start. and tough to play.

“After losing the first set I went to the toilet and told myself I had to change something.

“I felt like this was the chance of my life, the best week of my life, I had to give everything.

“Today I did this, so I’m really happy. Tennis is like this – every day it changes. We have to be prepared and accept everything (conditions).”

Canada’s FAA broke Cobolli in the final set of the opening set to take the early lead but was pegged back by the battling Italian ranked 14th.

Cobolli rallied from 1-3 down in the second set, breaking the North American twice to square the early evening.encounter and won the third on the strength of a single break.  

The Italian continued to apply the pressure with a break for 3-2 in the fourth set and edged out to 5-3, finishing two games later with a stinging cross-court winner on match point.

Auger-Aliassime is playing in his 1st Roland Garros quarter-final and now attempts to become the first Canadian man to reach a semi-final at this event in tournament history. 

He looks to advance to his third Grand Slam semi-final, following runs to the final four stage at US Open in 2021 and 2025,  to become the third man born

in 2000s to achieve the feat. 

He meets World No. 14 Flavio Cobolli with Italian leading 2-0 in their head-to-head.

After advancing to Wimbledon QF last year, Cobolli aims to go a step further and reach his first Grand Slamsemi-final to move closer to a Top 10 debut.
