Sabalenka completes patch job after RG outburst

Aryna Sabalenka tied a bow around her series of apologies on Saturday for a French Open finals outburst against Paris champion Coco Gauff as the world No. 1 prepared for her start at Wimbledon.

Sabalenka has been working for three weeks to finally distance herself from remarks at the Paris trophy Ceremony after she lost to the American.

Sabalenka at the time said she played poorly and gave the new champion little, if any, credit.

But that all changed in recent days, with the pair releasing a social media clip of them dancing in a series of well choreographed moves.

Sabalelnka tried to put a lid on the mini-controversy in her pre-Wimbledon media interview.

“As I messaged to her, I didn’t really want to offend her. I was just completely upset with myself, and emotions got over me.

“I wanted to say it in person to her, but I had to message her to apologise and make sure she understand it.

“It’s all good, don’t worry. We are good, we are friends. I hope the U.S. media can be easy on me right now.”

The two-time Australian Open champion said that she is working to improve her mental equilibrium to prevent any further explosions of anger in defeat.

“I believe I get over-emotional at the last stages of the tournaments because I have this desire of winning.

“Sometimes I can lose control over my emotions. So I would love to improve that at the last stages of the tournament.”

She added: “Honestly, I’m kind of glad what happened to me at Paris, because I was able to learn a lot. I was able to sit back and being open to myself, not just to ignore some things.

“We spoke with the team. I think we learned something. I really hope it will never happen again.”
