Aryna Sabalenka will take a pass on next week’s China Open as the US Open winner heals an injury.

The world No. 1 was due to have started the WTA Asian swing in the Chinese capital but will instead take time away to heal.

The four-time titleholder at the majors did not give much away concerning her problem, which she described as a “small injury” suffered during her run to the New York Grand Slam title.

She will miss the prestige 1000-level event which oddly starts next Wednesday as officials continue to play fast and loose with the 2025 tournament calendar,

“Aryna has not fully recovered from the injury she sustained during the US Open, (and) will miss the 2025 China Open,” organisers said.

Sabalenka, got to the last eight in Beijing a year ago. “I am going to focus on recovery, and strive to quickly return to the court at 100 per cent,” she said to Weibo.
