Serena could be paving the way for a comeback

Serena Williams coiled be quietly prepping for a return to tennis more than three years after retiring.

The world anti-doping body has confirmed to The Athletic that the 23-time Grand Slam winner has asked to be readmitted to the dope testing pool.

Rules require she remain there for six months before being allowed to play in the WTA.

The possible move means that the mother of two could rejoin her elder sister Venus, who this week announced her engagement just days after advising that she will compete next season at age 44.

With expectations rising, the Serena scenario may be tempered, with reports that the move might be only used to play as a wild card in the USD 1 million US Open doubles in nine months.
