Sinner chasing return to No. 1
Jannik Sinner’s 6-3,6-3 win over Ben Shelton in less than 70 minutes, put him into the Paris Semi-finals for the first time.
It was also his seventh straight win over the American and the former downhill skiier can take over the ATP No. 1 spot from Carlos Alcaraz if he wins Sunday’s Final in the French capital.
“I’m very happy,” Sinner told Sky Sports. “It was a very, very tough match.
“At times you don’t have a lot of control because of his incredible serving, but today I felt like I was returning very well. Also, from the back of the court I played very solid and very aggressive.”
The 24-year-old Italian will face Alexander Zverev in the semi-final after the defending champion survived two match points to beat Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).in a three-set thriller.
