Sinner races into his first IW final
World No.2 Jannik Sinner wasted little time in the Tennis Garden dispatching the tournament No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4 in just 83 minutes.
The Italian had failed to proceed into the last four on his past two appearances in the “Tennis Paradise” but sealed his sixth consecutive tour win over Zverev with a polished performance.
The 24-year-old Italian has won 21 of his 24 titles on hard courts and is aiming to be just the third player to capture all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles, after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
“It was a great performance – very solid from the back of the court. I tried to go for shots and that felt like one of the keys,” Sinner said post match.
“He has a huge serve so I tried to mix it up. From my side I was very precise and it was a solid performance.
“I thought the match would be more physical but when both serve well it’s difficult to get into a rhythm with short points”
Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s final
