Sinner reinforces his career domination of The Demon
Jannik Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur for the 12th time without a loss on Saturday as the Italian world No. 2 powered into the final of the ATP event in Vienna.
Sinner will bid for his fourth title of the season after crushing Aussie de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 in a brief 89 minutes.
The Italian also won his 20th straight match indoors, with his last loss under a roof occurring in 2023.
Second seed Alexander Zverev prevented an all-Italian final on Sunday in Austria as he defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4,, 7-5.
2023 Vienna champion Sinner has played finals in all but two of his 10 events this year, missing out on Shanghai and Halle.
He is still duelling with Carlos Alcaraz for year-end world No. 1 honours, with both men entered in the Paris Masters starting on Monday.Sinner improved to 16-4 in Vienna, which the native German-speaker considers his home event.
The top seed began the opening set 4-0 to announce his intentions to de Minaur and was never threatened as he reached the title match.
“I tried to take every day in the best possible way, I’m happy to be here in the final,” the winner said
“I tried to play some good tennis, trying to serve very well. The first set was very physical, so I’m happy that I won in two sets.
“He changed a couple of things, which I was ready for today. He knows how to put me under pressure.
“You have to play every ball and every point. He can get very physical.”
The seed who lost serve once in the second set, added: “I’m happy how I handled it.I was a break up in the second, broke him back, tried to stay there mentally.
“I’m very happy about today’s performance and always happy again to be in the final.”
