Sinner remains untouchable indoors with Vienna rout

Jannik Sinner crushed Daniel Altmaier with the loss of just two games to extend his indoor win streak to 17 straight as the world No. 2 put on a textbook performance at the ATP Vienna event.

The Italian who lifted the Stadthalle two years ago, lost lost under a roof at the ATP Finals in Turin to Novak Djokovic in November, 2023.

The top seed displayed his ruthless side with his game on auto-pilot in the 58 minute first-round rout of the German.

Sinner lost just six points on serve and needed just 20 minutes to claim the opening set.

The win came a few weeks after another Sinner defeat of Altmaier in Shanghai; Sinner now lines up against compatriot Fabio Cobolli.

“In the first set everything was working very well,” Sinner said. “I had barely any mistakes.

“But indoors you have to be careful; if he starts serving well it can be difficult to break.

“I’m very happy with the performance, I started the tournament in a very positive way.

‘Game-wise and feeling-wise I’m happy to be here.”
