Sinner set for his grass-court kickoff
Jannik Sinner has begun work to get acclimated to grass with only one warmup event scheduled before the new world No. 1 heads to the lawns of Wimbledon.
Sinner spelled out his run-up scenario on Saturday in Halle at the German ATP event played in a mini version of Wimbledon’s famed Centre Court.
“There are not so many grass events for me – just here and Wimbledon,” the top seed said on Saturday prior to his first-round start against Talon Griekspoor.
“It’s nice to get back onto grass, it’s very different. You have to get used to the movement, which is difficult.
“You could also face a player who has played already and has a feeling for the grass.”
Sinner has a limited history at the tournament staged in the North Rhine-Westfalen countryside outside of the small town of Halle; Players conveniently have their own hotel on the grounds.
His only appearance was a year ago, when he reached the quarter-finals but had to quit against Alexander Bublik.
“It can only help but build confidence for Wimbledon,” he said of the week.
