Jannik Sinner took full advantage of a clearing day at the weather-hit Miami Masters on Saturday, storming into the third round in his opening match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Damir Dzumhur.

The world No. 2 Italian needed just 71 minutes to advance, winning his 12th consecutive match at the elite Masters 100 level.

.The 24-year-old is bidding to win the March Sunshine Double after triumphing at the weekend in the Indian Wells final of Daniil Medvedev.

The last to lift the prestige North American doubles was Roger Federer nine years ago.

Today, starting off with a break straightaway, I tried to be a bit aggressive,” said the winner who dropped just eight points on serve.

“At times it worked very well, at times I made a couple of unforced errors, but I didn’t have a lot of time to adjust here.

“It’s very different than in Indian Wells. First-round matches are never easy, so I’m happy.”

He added:  “I always treat every opponent in the same way, trying to come on court and do my best with a great attitude and trying to go for it.”

Sinner won Miami two years ago but did not play in 2025 due to a controversial ban of several months.
