Sinner stretches his record to reach Turin final
Jannik Sinner hammered Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday to reach a third consecutive title match at the ATP Finals with a flawless semi-final performance.
He broke the Aussie three times from 13 chances while getting to the de Minaur serve four times.
The world No. 2 behind Carlos Alcaraz won his 30th consecutive match on indoor hardcourt, polishing a record which extends back to years to this event where he lost the final to Novak Djokovic,
Sinner will play for the trophy on Sunday against the winner from Alcaraz and Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The Italian thrilled a packed house of 13,000 home fans with his victory in just over two hours, and has reached the final without the loss of a set.
He defeated Australian de Minaur for the 13th time without a loss, concluding on his second match point with an untouchable inside-out forehand deep in the corner.
.”I’m very happy to finish this way at the last event of the year,” the winner said. “It was a tough match.
“In the first set he was serving grat, very precise.
“In the second I was able to break early and raised my level. I played more aggressive, which worked very well.”
Sinner, winner of two Grand Slam titles this season, said that playing in Italy made the week extra special “this beautiful season.”
“The final will be difficult but I will try for the best possible result. I’m serving better at the end of the season than throughout the season. I’ll try to improve that throughout the year.
“I need my serve to be as stable as possible, I’m happy about the work we’ve been doing.
“Tomorrow is the last match of the season and I’m very happy to finish with a final.”
